Description: 

A heavy sandstorm hit Beijing on March 15, 2021, shrouding the Chinese capital 

with a pale yellow haze. City authorities issued warnings to residents about sealing

off their homes and wearing masks, as well as avoiding billboards and temporary 

structures which may be dislodged by strong winds. Officials said the storm, 

which has affected about 12 provinces in northern China, is the worst to hit the 

country in about 10 years.

The worst sandstorm in a decade has hit the Chinese capital. 

The sky turned a pale yellow with visibility less than 1,000 meters (3,200ft). 

While the saurce of the pollution is natural, air quality reached hazardous levels.

Traffic in Beijing was disrupted on Monday morning. Residents were told to 

close doors and windows and wear masks and scarves. High winds prompted 

a warning to stay away from the billboards and temporary structures.

Authorities aso advised schools to suspend all outdoor activities. 

China's Meteorological Bureau said the sandstorm originated in Mongolia. 

Conditions in Beijing were expected to graduatlly improve by the afternoon.

12 provinces in northern China have been affected by the sandstorms.
