The Taliban government of Afghanistan has resumed issuing passports for the first time since the militant group seized power on August 15, 2021, and stopped providing the documents to stop Afghans from leaving the country. The resumption since December 19, 2021, is giving hope to citizens who feel threatened living under the rule of the Islamists as well as hardships related to the crumbling economy and a growing humanitarian crisis. Taliban officials have called for international aid to be restored in the country and say they expect an influx of returning Afghan refugees from other countries in 2022.

If the situation get worse, then we must have documents so we can flee. The Taliban stopped issuing travel documents after it seized power on August 15. The Taliban restarted issuing passports on December 19...giving hope to those who fear life under the Islamist group's rule and crumbling. Omid Naseer: Since five months ago when the Taliban came, we have no work, nobody care about us and no one is thinking about art. The artist are the most vulnerable, but no one cares about them. The Taliban interim government has called for international aid to be restored in the country. Taliban appealed to countries to treat Afghan refugees in a humane manner. Khalil Rahman Haqqani: Afghan refugees are living in camp very poor conditions. The situation is bad. They need to return to their country and return to their jobs back home. The Taliban said it expects in influx or returning refugees in 2022.
